For JCDecaux as a global leader in airport advertising, sustainability has been a key part of its business strategy since its launch. Over the years, the very strong relationship and active collaboration with Paris Airport has helped reaffirm its commitment to sustainability and provide environment-friendly airport advertising solutions to brands.
Extime JCDecaux Airport has been able to implement several initiatives over the years to optimise its environmental footprint. The company has replaced the traditional tubes in the airport's lightboxes with LED lighting, resulting in a significant reduction in energy consumption. As a result, more than 90% of lightboxes are with LED lighting. This shift has not only boosted the efficiency of the lightboxes but has also improved the quality and reliability of the advertisements.
Extime JCDecaux Airport has decided to switch on and off its furniture according to the opening and closing times of terminals to optimise its environmental footprint. Since 2019, switching off can even be done at the terminal zone level, thus significantly reducing energy consumption without compromising the quality of the media.
Two strong pillars to boost our sustainability strategy
Since September 2023, Extime JCDecaux Airport has been offering PVC-free advertising canvases called "Pearlflex" at Paris Airport.
These new canvases are made in France, 100% European-sourced and the weave is made from recycled PET yarns. The aqueous coating of the fabrics replaces the solvents used for PVC. Finally, these canvases have better end-of-life cycle treatment, via energy recovery in solid recovered fuel. Thanks to this new material and manufacturing process, the carbon impact of Pearlflex canvases is more than halved compared to current canvases.
At the end of 2023, Extime JCDecaux Airport undertook the renovation of all its 70-inch DOOH displays. These were replaced by third-generation 75-inch steles using full backlight LED backlighting with dimming for the LCD panel. The brightness is now set to 70% of the maximum power to have an emerging, non-aggressive broadcast quality, which extends the life of screens and reduces electricity consumption.
This technology helps minimise electricity consumption while maintaining the advertisement campaign's visibility and impact.
The previous 70-inch DOOH displays are recycled at different levels.
On the one side, the glass and aluminium frames are recycled by our waste management service provider. Each type of waste is sorted at the Maurepas site into separate skips: wood, electronics, aluminium, steel, glass, cardboard, etc…
On the other side, 100% of Samsung screens are recovered by our electronic waste management service provider for recycling or recovery. Where possible, Sharp screens are returned to the retrofit kit circuit for after-sales service. An analysis of the condition of the screen is carried out in the workshop. If this analysis is conclusive, the screens can be reused, for example, for after-sales service in regional airports.
Make your campaign sustainable with Extime JCDecaux Airport.
