Commitment charter for managers of railway stations, stations and airports, and advertising agencies in terms of energy sobriety

The main players, managers and operators in the transport sector, gave a progress report on the Energy Saving Plan and the measures implemented since this autumn to make energy savings.
These plans are based in particular on monitoring energy consumption, raising awareness and adopting simple everyday gestures (reducing heating, saving on lighting, switching off screens, car-sharing, etc.).
A number of measures specific to the transport sector have been adopted:
- For the railways: reinforcement of eco-driving measures, introduction of off-peak economy runs, adaptation of ventilation systems, etc.
- In ports: reducing transit speed and optimising dredger movements.
- With freight transport companies: eco-driving training for drivers, optimising deliveries, etc.
Assessments are currently being carried out in the various companies. Initial feedback shows real reductions in energy consumption.
Following this initial assessment, the stakeholders expressed their determination to continue their action as part of Act 2 of the energy efficiency plan. New measures have been identified and discussions have enabled us to outline the outlook for the coming months, particularly with regard to illuminated advertising. The players in the public transport and advertising sectors have signed a commitment charter to better regulate illuminated advertising in stations and airports. This initiative goes beyond what is required under the current legislative and regulatory framework.
With this charter, operators commit to:
- Turn off 100% of their illuminated signs as soon as stations, airports and metros close by 1 January 2024;
- Establish a strategy to reduce the management of their fleet of illuminated panels.
They set ambitious quantified targets in terms of the carbon trajectory and the reduction of electricity consumption, for example:
- -35% reduction in RATP's electricity consumption by 2026;
- -45% reduction in carbon emissions for the SNCF by 2031;
- -50% carbon emissions for ADP by 2030 ;
Charter signatories: Union des transports publics et ferroviaires (UTP, representing urban public transport operators, rail companies and rail infrastructure managers in France), RATP, SNCF, Aéroports de Paris, JCDecaux and Mediatransports.
